Bean There
Last summer/autumn I had too many chillis. I had purchased two types on special that had been mis-labelled and the seller only knew they were chilli plants and no which type.
They turned out to be a long (4-6") one and a small round ball-type, both very hot.
I loved both when added to my food.
I froze some - with fresh chillis just wash whole fruit in clean water, freeze separately on a tray and the bag, they last for at least six months.
Still with left-overs I sterilised a jar, filled it to the brim with cheap Pinot-Gris and shoved in one large chilli. I then threw the jar in the back of a cupboard and forgot about it.
I found it this week, six months later.
I had just cooked a bean mixture (red, white and black beans with peas) so made a bean salad by adding capers and some of the pinot-gris. After mixing the salad I put in a sealed container and refrigerated for 24 hours.
Had some with cold meat (beef and salami) last night for dinner.
The best bean salad I can remember tasting.

I keep reading this sort of stuff, in damned near everything published in New Zealand:
Māori have a rich cultural heritage and a deep connection to their land and natural resources. That came from an item on BreakingViews.co.nz but, with very minor variance, is to be found in almost every news and current event comment.
Problem is that it is a load of utter bullshit.
History (before racist embellishment) tells us that most maori had no land at all, just territory they controlled through might. They had no "worldview" because they didn't know of a World.
Most existed in small, itinerant tribes moving where they could, raping the land they came across before hunger, or a stronger group, moved them on. Even when tribes were larger different factions were separate entities combing only occasionally for trade (eg Southern Ngai-tahu were very different from Canterbury Ngai-tahu, not even thought of when Canterbury Ngai-tahu were decimated by Wanganui cannibals in the 1930s. The Canterbury tribe looked to whalers/traders to repopulate their territory.).
Hunter/gatherers with the handicap that they quickly destroyed anything worth hunting except themselves - and after they obtained better weapons they damned near did that as well.
As such they also made no advances in technology from when they were delivered to these shores.
The above quote is simply the invention of greedy, mainly white, thieves intent on gaining yet another way to relieve you of your hard-earned goods.
Lock those thieves up, shoot every pollie left of NZF, decapitate every "leader" and hang every "teacher" and NZ will suddenly find the part maori remaining are bloody good guys.

Bus Fire
Overnight an electric bus was involved in an accident, caught fire and burned. It burned through the night, typical of Lithium-Ion fires in vehicles.
These fires are happening with some regularity.
A passenger (according to reports) was killed in the fire: " Witnesses reported one person on the bus was unable to be freed in time."
Fires in electric vehicles are almost common nowdays, deaths from these fires regularly reported and yet some bright bastard involved with a Jafa bus company purchased these death-trap buses for use in public transport.
I seriously hope this bastard and her decision-approving superiors are charged with, and subsequently convicted of, murder - this was premeditated.

Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon joined John MacDonald to get the latest from their district on storm preparation and damage.
Both are attached to advertisements for a radio segment by, probably, the most unfortunate broadcaster in New Zealand radio.
I highlight these photograph for this reason: the radio segment is about the high winds ("windstorms") hitting Canterbury as I type.

BSA Bullshit
The BSA attempt to censor The Platform has ignited a series of articles and comment from internet users and commenters.
I have read at least half a dozen columns, each condemning the attempt, and seen headlines for probably double that number.
I even commented about it myself .
For those living in a remote cave the BSA decided that they now can censure and censor internet commenters and started with The Platform and Sean Plunket.
Mr Plunket called mumbo-jumbo "mumbo jumbo". A professional complainer complained and the sheilas of the BSA acted - with malice.
Most commenters I have read, barring national's official spokesman (and the Minister) have expressed their disgust of the BSA sheilas' actions,
None however have addressed the very important point the the BSA action was not just illegal and immoral, it was, in fact, blatantly racist.
For that reason alone the BSA sheilas should be marched, naked, from Cape Reinga to Bluff with a public flogging every lunch time along the way.
Woolly Thinking

'Too young to drive': Eight youths in stolen car lead police on Auckland motorway chase
From the report:
“Safely resolving a fleeing incident, allegedly involving eight youths who were all too young to drive, was a top priority for Waitematā Police in the early hours of this morning,” Bartlett said.
I don't doubt the quote, which makes this report rather disturbing.
The youths were too young to drive legally. They may have been too young to drive safely (although the ending of the incident may suggest otherwise) but they were NOT "too young to drive".
They proved that - emphatically!
When senior policemen make statements containing woolly, inaccurate phrases it usually means their thinking is woolly, inaccurate.
Waitematā West Area Response Manager, Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Bartlett; From someone who's very job requires clear thinking I find this troubling indeed.

The child-minders, the already highly paid bedpan dispensers and the ACC fraudsters are going on strike.
Fair enough.
I suggest the Government retaliate by passing legislation ordering all Civil Servant's wages reflect the value of the work they do, not the job description and remove ALL minimum wage restrictions.
In this case the first lot will end up paying us, the second keep what they get now and the third will immediately lining up to get into debtor's prison.

That Hitler was an entertaining fellow, Saville certainly kept the kids on their toes. Stalin was good to his mum.
In the same vein Bolger was not the most damaging Prime Minister New Zealand has ever suffered under.
He does hold a big lead in the race for second place though.
Notably it was all downhill from then on.

Strike and be Damned!
Secondary school "teachers", or at least the unionised ones, have announced a series of strikes starting today.
I'm of two minds.
The benefit of time off from the incessant communist and racist indoctrination of most classrooms may be far greater for pupils leading up to important exams than the benefits from those pupils being babysat for five to six hours a day by the otherwise unemployable.
Rather than whinge I suggest the Minister tries to find out if this is so.

One Third
One third.
That's right, 1 third.
According to this story from a gentleman who has worked it out, 34% (1 third) of the electorate given a choice voted for apartheid.
What an indictment on New Zealand as a country, on the New Zealand Education system, on the New Zealand mainstream media.
This was not a vote on the concept of apartheid, this was, remember, a vote on whether your local representatives must bow to a bunch of honky dudes pretending to be polynesian.
One third of people's representatives subject to the recent election must now kiss the arse of these honkies.
It is not often I'm pleased I'm an old fart but I am today. The Gods willing I shall be either dead or non-compos-mentis before this disgrace causes it's worst problems.

Your Fault
You are slightly independent. Your children are teenagers (or you decided not to inflict on the World further brainwashed life) and life is starting to become bearable.
You, of course, still work for the useless (Civil servants, lazy bastards etc.) via tax but your business is good. Your life is comfortable.
You’re sitting in the sun, sipping on a cold drink, contemplating your navel – and your new, temporary swimming pool your friends and their teenage kids enjoy so much on BBQ day/nights.
As you sit there the peace and quiet is disturbed by a new neighbour moving in to your cul-de-sac.
The new neighbour is a single female with four, multi-coloured children, all under six. You (your taxes) are responsible for and support this “family”.
The rules say that each morning you must pick up these children, take them safely to child-care, kindergarten or primary school (whether they want to or not), you must pick them up from said activities at the appropriate time and deliver them back home.
After ensuring that food, beverage and entertainment is available for them you may return home, sit in the sun and guard the swimming pool against incursion of the afore mentioned children.
At least that’s what the Water Safety Council demands.
They want to ban above ground (temporary) swimming pools because, once every two years, someone drowns in one.
That someone is, invariably, an unattended toddler. Note the "unattended".
The Water Safety Council demands that YOU are responsible for that toddler!

Pure abuse at it's most basic form, there can be no doubt about it.
I can only hope that poor, abused Israeli flag gets the counseling and comfort it now needs.
From the linked-to story: " “They dragged little Greta by her hair before our eyes, beat her, and forced her to kiss the Israeli flag. They did everything imaginable to her, as a warning to others,” he told the outlet."
I await the film showing "Poor Greta" having her near naked, almost certainly dead, body bundled into a jeep to be paraded around in triumph.
Meanwhile it will be hard to pardon Israel for their action of inflicting 137 on an already suffering World.

Horror yes, Shock ?????
I have read today three different comments on blogs about the same instance.
It seems some civil servants (in this case the Electoral Commission ones) have been promoting pro-apartheid propaganda of another public funded outfit, LGNZ.

All three comments attribute some sort of "shock/horror" to this action.
"Fair enough" you may think but, no, it ain't.
The "shock/horror" bit is as dishonest as the actions of those bodies.
This sort of tax-payer/rate-payer skullduggery happens now with such regularity that only a report detailing how civil servants did their job in a competent, non-political, unbiased way will now create genuine shock (although, as they're civil servants, the "horror" will remain).

Decolonisation
"Decolonisation" is a word I keep seeing on my daily trawl through New Zealand websites.
The action of decolonisation, I admit, I have never read about.
Upon reflection I would like that to change.
I have decided therefore, subject to one condition, to support decolonisation (I like birds).
That condition is we use chronological order to implement decolonisation using a "first in-first out" process and demand those leaving use exactly the same form of transport they arrived in.
The sole alternative to be transportation to the 12 mile limit, upon which they are required to walk the rest of the way.
I am amazed.
The headline:
Ryan Bridge: We need to break away from coalition governments
The story: I urge you to read it.
Mr Bridge usually, from what I see, produces short pieces on popular stories, mostly expounding on the latest fashionable view of those stories. My guess is that those pieces are added to the website by Bridge himself, or by a lackey assigned to the task without editorial supervision of any sort. No wonder then that this column appeared.
Yesterday (If Bridge's timeline is accurate) Government pollies turned up to a meeting with different, opposing views. They then proceeded to discuss those views, working out a compromise on the issue that could work for both parties.
Mr Bridge considers this to be a problem.
No doubt on Mr Bridge's planet the pollies would be banned from any meeting (probably by being imprisoned and shot), no compromise would ever be reached and the PM (Dictator) would advise the survivors of what the only acceptable opinion will be.
I am amazed: Not that this column appeared but that Mr Bridge found his way through his front door to the waiting transport that conveyed him to the NewstalkZB premises allowing him to produce such nonsense. His minders must be very good indeed.
