The story is about the removal of a legal requirement for undersized fish caught by commercial fishing boats to be returned to the sea.
A couple of things people involved in commercial fishing have told me:
1/ Most fish thrown back die or are dead.
2/ Fish tend to produce a very large quantity of offspring. "Baby" fish are, in the main, produced to die.
In fact most "baby" fish have no purpose beyond dying and are exactly the same as "baby" carrots, which I guarantee those up in arms about this story have no qualms about killing.
The fish that need protecting are not "baby" fish but the big bastards that create "baby" fish, the same as we keep a few big carrots to create more baby carrots.
The story is, in fact, yet another dishonest attempt to throw shadow upon the current Government and has no other purpose.
Maybe it's time to start netting and eating "baby" journalists.
